Ragi sweet semiya / vermicelli is one of the easiest breakfast / snack that can be prepared shortly. As it has more health benefits, we need to add this is in our diet. Ragi semiya is loaded with calcium, vitamins and minerals. Addition of grated coconut and brown sugar makes it rich and super healthy. Here i have shared sweeter version of ragi vermicelli, you can try this as savoury too. Traditionally we use Anil ragi vermicelli / finger millet vermicelli for the sweet ragi semiya.

| INGREDIENTSRagi semiya / vermicelli – 1 Packet (180 grams) Water – 1 litre (For soaking) Salt – 1/2 Tsp (For soaking) Ghee – 1Tsp (For greasing plates) Brown sugar – 4 Tbsp Ghee – 2 Tsp Grated coconut – 3 Tbsp

TIPS TO GET THE RAGI SEMIYA PERFECT1. Do not soak it for more than 3 minutes otherwise it will get dissolved in water. 2. Drain water completely before steaming, orelse you will end up having lumps after steaming. 3. Mix salt in water to get even saltiness in the semiya / vermicelli. 4. You can also use modak steamer instead of idly steamer. 5. Fluff the semiya to avoid sticking to each other. 6. Cardamom powder is totally optional feel free to add it to semiya if you wish. 7. You can also replace brown sugar with refined white sugar. 8. You can add ghee / gingelly oil to the semiya to enhance its flavour. |
| INSTRUCTIONS 1. Cut open the ragi semiya packet and add it to a bowl . 2. Add water, mix salt and immerse semiya. Allow the semiya to soak in water for 3 minutes. 3. Meanwhile heat water in idli steamer and grease the idli plates with little ghee or you can use idly cloth too for steaming. 4. After soaking for 3 minutes, drain the water completely from ragi semiya and place it on idli plates. 5. Now place the idly plates in steamer and steam cook for about 5 minutes and switch off the flame. 6. Take steamed ragi semiya out of the steamer and allow it to cool. 7. Once the ragi semiya has cooled a bit, make sure they do not stick to each other. 8. Gently fluff it with hands or fork to seperate them. 9. In a bowl take the steamed semiya add in brown sugar, ghee, grated coconut and mix everything well. 10. Delicious and healthy ragi sweet semiya / vermicelli is ready to serve for breakfast or you can serve it as snack too. |
